Free Child Car Restraints for Eligible Families

When properly used, child car seats and safety restraints are a proven device for minimizing child injury during a car accident.  Children without approved car seats are put at tremendous risk every time they travel.  Despite the wide social acceptance and legal requirement for child car restraints, these items can be costly and difficult to afford for many families.  The YWCT has pledged to give away, free, new car seats to struggling families all across New Zealand.   We do not expect the seats to be returned, but do hope they will be passed on to other families in the community when children have outgrown their use.  YWCT is working closely with NZ Police to identify struggling families that could benefit from this program. All families are referred by Police Officers; usually during road side stops. Police Officers then notify us so we can send the seat directly to the family.
